Brasov - BRIEF HISTORY:
The most famous town in Ţara Bârsei is Braşov. Its origins go back to the 13th
century, when the town was first mentioned in the Knights' Diploma.
Situated in the central part of the country, at the shelter offered by the Carpathian Curvature,
the town lays at the feet of the Tampa Hill. It is thus understandable why for 12 centuries the Saxons chose
to establish their major settlements in this location.
The town of Braşov, or by its Saxon name Kronstadt, was considered to be one of the strongest
commercial holes, a status maintained even today. Its medieval atmosphere is well preserved through the
presence of so many historical relics: the History Museum - situated in the Council Square, the Weavers'
Bastion, The Black Church, and Saint Nicholas Church.

Brasov - FOLKLORE, CULTURE, ARCHITECTURE:
The Black Church
One of the most interesting tourist objectives in Brasov - The Black Church reveals its greatness
through its gothic architecture, dating from the 14th century; it is situated nearby the Council Square.
Its name derives from the fire that caused its deterioration (blackened walls) in the year 1689. On the roof
top lays the silhouette of a baby boy carved in stone. The legend goes that this small monument was erected
to remember the fatal accident of a child who was giving a hand to the church's construction. Near by The
Black Church and The Council Square is The Republica Street,
the perfect place for shopping and walking. It is a place where tourists can find handicraft objects,
painted eggs, woolen fabrics, wooden toys and sculptures.
Săcele
One of the most beautiful extensions of the Brasov Depression, the town of Sacele is situated at
the foot of the Bârsana Mountains, at an altitude of 620-700 meters. Although reduced in size and
surface, Sacele has a very rich history.
In 1971 Săcele was declared a town through the merging of the communes of Baciu, Satulung
and Turcheş, but its name is certified since 1482. History is very much alive in this place: churches
surrounded by great walls and tall towers: Saint Michael and Gabriel Church, Saint Nicholas Church or The
Virgin's Assumption, also famous are the buildings of Casa Dijmelor.
The tourist offer is quite varied, as in Brasov. It is the starting point to Postăvaru or
Piatra Mare and the accommodation offered includes modern pensions, where you will perhaps feel better than
home.
